First Home Visit Since 09-13-2001

Well, the day arrived: 03-16-2002. My friend, William B., went for the ride and we picked up my daughter at Exit 33 of the turnpike, Allentown. Denise, the chaperon, was there to "check" the car seat. I asked her if she also wanted to check the oil. She laughed and so did Bill. Carolyn and her one tag-a-long daughter, Amanda, brought my daughter. It was agreed, then and there, that the exist was not safe to conduct such an exchange. Give or take a few miles, a literal mid-way point was agreed upon: Exit 34. Denise did her thing with the care seat, was pleasant and off she went.

I started the drive to the Hazleton area. After a few minutes of driving, Rosie started crying, saying she wanted her "mommy". (I expected this from the first round of unsupervised visits and was ready. Maybe my name should be changed to Leslie #2. But then again...) Anyway, I was able to quite her fears and the trip was enjoyable.

You see, I don't believe in "white lies". As before, I told Rosie she has a real mommy and a pretend mommy: that being Carolyn.

After I dropped Bill off at his house, I stopped at the hospital to visit my mother. (She was hit by a car last week and was severely injured. At her age, much to be concerned about.) Besides seeing her Nana, Rosie made a big impression with the nurses.

Then it was off to Bonnie's house. Rosie was a little disappointed because she was looking forward to playing dress-up with Sammy (the little girl next door, called Samantha, who was with her father.) She had fun playing with the hamster and the bird: Hampy and Fred, and also exploring the surroundings like seeing her room, interacting with Bonnie, playing dominos, riding her bicycle and a new game she invented, sliding down the steps. It was funny and she kept saying, "again". As with typical routines, she picked up as if the past six months, as a time frame, was not an issue.

Six hours went quick. Met Carolyn at the exit at 3:30 and drove home.

As for the picture above, taken in Bonnie's living room.
